Managers tempted to take a leaf out of Sir Alan Sugar's book should pause for thought before they start running around pointing the finger and shouting "your fired", one expert has warned.
Jane Farrell, chief executive of consultancy firm Equality Works, explained that the techniques used by the businessman in BBC One's The Apprentice might lead to problems in real workplaces.
She reminded managers that the show is "essentially entertainment" and should be treated as such.
This means avoiding making decisions on a gut feeling when firing people, something she thinks Sir Alan does during The Apprentice.
"Redundancy is both a reality and an ever present threat for millions of people and it is vital that businesses approach this in a sensitive, informed and considered manner," Ms Farrell said.
Fans of the show will already know that it was former army cadet Paula Jones who had the misfortune of hearing Sir Alan's oft quoted catchphrase "you're fired" this week
