Headline: Governments 'must innovate to beat recession'
Description: Governments around the globe should innovate in order to beat the financial crisis, according to a new study.

A report published by the Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation and Deloitte Research called for a new approach to the challenges faced by the world.

Politicians who heed this call will be able to create an improved economic environment, the study claimed.

Greg Pellegrino, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu's public sector industry leader, explained falling tax income will force many governments to reassess their way of working.

"They must adopt innovation as a discipline in the government organisation in order to produce successful new processes and practices on regular bases," he said.

Stephen Goldsmith, director of the innovations in American government programme at the Ash Institute, that following this advice would help create a culture of "sustainable change".

Earlier this week, Marcus Sephton, head of regulatory services at KPMG, called on world leaders to cooperate to make sure there is an adequate response to the global recession.
