IQ Object Icon Builder

This is a brief description on how to put IQ Reports into a Program Group so that the reports can be run from the Task Bar Start Button.

Steps to follow using IQ Objects Reporting Edition

On the computer where the Reporting Edition was installed, start IQ Objects and then open the first report in the list under the c:\IQ\IQReports directory. The Open file screen should be similar to the one below.

Once the report is opened it will be displayed in design mode. In the case of the AT_3_up_Labels report the screen will look similar to the one below.

Once the report is opened, select Tools from the menu bar. Then select the Auto Icon Builder option. The following screen will be displayed.

Move the cursor to the Program Group drop down box. In the box type IQ Reports and then move the cursor to the Current Icon box and use the drop down box to select an Icon for the report. You can use the first one in the list. The Auto Icon Builder screen should now look like the following screen.

Select the OK button. The report will be added to a program group similar to the screen shown below.

You can now select the Start button, Programs and IQ Reports to see the list of reports that are now available to be executed from the Start button.

The process of opening the report and creating an Icon for it through the Auto Icon Builder will have to be repeated for every report in the list. The only difference now is that you can select IQ Reports from the Program Group drop down list, as shown below. After each report Icon is created in IQ Objects, close the report. If prompted to save any changes to the report, select No.

Steps to follow using IQ Objects Personal Edition

The steps to create the Program Groups on the computers with the IQ Objects Personal Edition installed on them is similar to the reporting edition but instead of opening the report in design mode, the reports have to run before the Auto Icon Builder option is available to use.

On the computer where the Personal Edition was installed, start IQ Objects Personal Edition and then open the first report in the list under the c:\IQ\IQReports directory. The Open file screen should be similar to the one below.

Once the Open button is selected, the report will be executed and displayed on the screen. For some reports the user will first have to answer prompts used by the report. After the prompts are answered the report will then be displayed. In the case of the AT_3_up_Labels report, the screen will look similar to the one below.

Once the report is displayed, select Tools from the menu bar.

The process of opening the report and creating an Icon for it through the Auto Icon Builder will have to be repeated for every report in the list and on every computer that had the Personal Edition installed on it. The only difference now is that you can select IQ Reports from the Program Group drop down list, as shown below. After each report Icon is created in IQ Objects Personal Edition, close the output window so that the next report can be opened.

Note: It may be possible to copy the Program Groups directory structure on the first Personal Edition computer that the Icon Builder process was performed on to the other Personal Edition computers. But this process as not been tested.
